The Amalfi Coast, or Costiera Amalfitana in Italian, is situated on the Mediterranean Sea at the western coast of Italy and stretchs from Naples to Salerno at the Gulf of Naples und the Gulf of Salerno, separated from the Sorrentine Peninsula. The Amalfi Coast is renowned for its rugged terrain, secenic beauty and picturesque villages, such as Positano, Praiano, Amalfi and Ravello.
Ravello is a charming village located above the Amalfi Coast in the province of Salerno and is a popular tourist destination.
Following Orient-Express Hotels' acquisition of the historic buildings and land of Hotel Caruso Belvedere in June 1999, an EUR 24 million restoration programme has been implemented. This Orient-Express hotel perches 350 metres above sea level on top of the cliffs and encompasses the "Belvedere" garden and a beautiful 13th Century Colonnade with panoramic 360 degree views.
During the restoration, ruins were discovered dating from the 12th century and those, along with some areas that had previously been abandoned, are now being restored in agreement with the Fine Arts authorities. This has facilitated the creation of some suites and junior suites. The finished property also offers facilities for groups and events.
The location of the hotel appeals to guests looking for either a cultural retreat or touring base, rich in ancient history. Nearby attractions include Ravello's 11th century Duomo and the many music festivals held in the immaculate ornamental gardens of the 13th century Villa Rufolo. Day visits are also available to the fascinating ruins of Pompeii and Paestum while the fashionable resort of Positano and the Island of Capri are also close by.Many people visit simply to relax, to explore the medieval passageways and to enjoy the unhurried lifestyle of the pedestrianised main square, the Piazza Duomo, set among the slopes of citrus trees and olive groves.
Since the first rooms opened in what was then called the Pensione Belvedere in 1893, this hotel has played host to writers and artists, aristocracy and royalty. Famous names in the Golden Book include Margot Fonteyn, Greta Garbo, Humphrey Bogart, Gina Lollobrigida and Jackie Kennedy.
The 24 magnificent guestrooms and 24 luxurious suites are individually decorated in its own unique design and the furniture reflects Neapolitan style and tradition and has been exclusively created for Hotel Caruso.
The Hotel Caruso has a range of dining facilities to suit every occasion with traditional Neapolitan and regional Italian dishes.
The Caruso Wellness Centre is situated in a lovely white building in the Caruso Gardens and offers a wide range of wellness and beauty treatments. The heated infinity swimming pool offers breathtaking view over the Gulf of Salermo.
