The town of Rapallo has ancient origins. The first news about it can be dated back to 1240. In that period Rapallo was a Medieval village surrounded by town walls with five gates. Today Rapallo is an important seaside resort and has some small shipyards and maritime engines factories. The natural environment of the Mount of Portofino is a fascinating landscape attraction, and it is at the origin of the premature tourism fortune known to the entire world, begun with the arrival of the first foreigners who fell in love with the mild climate and the exciting spectacle of a luxurious nature that advances towards the sea and stands out high up on the cliffs spurring intense emotions. In 1565 a noble family of Dogi, which governed a large part of Italy, decided to construct a summer residence at the foot of Mt. Portofino. Many of the visitors were Cardinals and Priests, which inspired the Dogi to build a beautiful small chapel at the villa. This oratory is still existing today. In the year 1956 it became the luxurious four-star hotel which it remains today. 1998 Hotel Cenobio dei Dogi has been restored and it combines tradition and comfort with Italian charm and atmosphere. Accomodations and public areas are expected to be tastefully furnished and very comfortable.
