Grand Hotel De La Minerva, Piazza della Minerva 69, 00186 Rome, Italy.
Rome, also called the "Eternal City", is one of the most beautifull cities in the world. The historic centre of Rome, the Vatican City and the Basilica of Saint Peter are listed by the UNESCO a World Cultural Heritage. Rome was for more than two and a half thousand years the largest city in the world with a great history with many historical buildings, like the Pantheon, the oldest standing domes structure in the city, the Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre ever built in the Roman Empire, spectacular triumphal arches, churches and palaces, splendid fontains, the Roman Forum, the Baths of Caracalla and the Castel Sant'Angelo.
Piazza della Minerva is a renowned square in Rome near the Pantheon. Two attractions on Piazza delle Minerva are the church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, built in a Gothic style, and the marmor elephant with the small obelisk of Minerva atop it by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
The Pantheon, a landmark of the Campus Martius since ancient Rome, was built in the years 118 to 125 AD by the Emperior Hadrina. The building is circular with a portico of three ranks of huge granite Corinthian columns (eight in the first rank and two groups of four behind) under a pediment opening into the rotunda, under a coffered, concrete dome, with a central opening (oculus) to the sky. Almost two thousand years after it was built, the Pantheon's dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome. The height to the oculus and the diameter of the interior circle are the same, 43.3 metres (142 feet). A rectangular structure links the portico with the rotunda. It is one of the best preserved of all Roman buildings. In 609, the Byzantine Emperor Phocas gave the building to Pope Boniface IV, who converted it into a Christian church and consecrated it to Sancta Maria ad Martyres, now known as Santa Maria dei Martiri.
