The "Albergo di Milano", today known as Grand Hotel et de Milan opened its doors in the year 1863 and is housed in a building with neo-gothic characteristics. Till the end of the 19th century it was the only hotel in Milan that offered telegraph and post service and so it was popolar by the business clientele and diplomats. Since its opening the five-star Grand Hotel et de Milan it has been accommodate international and national guests, like Luchino Visconti, Rudolf Nureyev, Maria Calls, Enrico Caruso , Ernest Hemingway and many others. Giuseppe Verdi, a world-famous composer of operas, stayed for several years at this hotel and one of the suites are named after Giuseppe Verdi. Recently the hotel has been completely refurbished and now it combines modern comfort with traditional character.
