Venice is situated on the shores of the Adriatic Sea in northern Italy. The capital of the region Veneto has been known as "Serenissima" or the "Queen of the Adriatic" is located in a saltwater lagoon stretching along the shorelines between the mouths of the River Po in the south and the River Piave in the north.
