The five star deluxe-hotel La Posta Vecchia is situated in Ladispoli, a town in the province Rome, 40 kilometres to the west of Rome and 32 kilometres to the south-east of Civitavecchia. The town stretchs along the Tyrrhenian Sea in a plane at the foot of the Sabatini Hills. The hotel is located in the district Palo, the ancient Alsium, directly on the shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea next to the Castle Palo and it is surrounded by 15 acres of beautuful gardens.
The original villa was built in 1640 by Prince Orsini over the remains of the ancient Roman port town Alsium. The Orsini family also owned the Castle Palo, located next to the villa, and needed a place for visiting friends and quickly it became a place also for other travellers making their way by horse along the Aurelia Road. In 1960 "La Posta Vecchia" was bought by Jean Paul Getty, an American industrialist, and he restored it to its original splendour and added antique furniture and works of art from around the world. During the restoration, the ruins two Roman villas were uncovered which now form the core of a small archaelogical museum in the basement of the hotel.
La Posta Vecchia was converted into a luxurious hotel in 1990, complete with every modern comfort and amenities as well as security systems and this jewel from the seventeenth century is now one of the most prestigious hotels in Italy.
