… Saint Marks Square, in the historic and cultural centre of Venice.
The Riva degli Schiavoni gets its name from the Sailors of the Schiavonia, today's Dalmatia, who moored their ships here and conducted business and trade. Along the Riva there is the Church of Santa Maria della Visitazione. The church's interior is preceded by a wide hall, which insulates it from noise and makes it ideal for musical performances. The church features a fresco by Tiepolo and a monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, an imposing equestrian statue by Ettore Ferrari erected in 1887. After crossing the Ponte del Vin, the Riva degli Schiavoni, flanked by the vaporetti wharves, becomes a very popular tourist attraction. The Riva also features Palazzo Dandolo and the impressive Palazzo delle Prigioni, built in Istrian stone between 1589 and 1614.A stay at the Hotel Londra Palace is simply unforgettable. 100 windows overlooking the lagoon with its famed Island of San Giorgio, the view from each room is of unsurpassable beauty. The completely in 1999 renovated Hotel Londra Palace was built in the year 1860. The authentic 19th-century Biedermeier furniture, fine original paintings, Aubusson carpets, brilliant mosaic floor and Murano glass chandeliers convey a feeling of quiet and consumate luxury. As Tchaikowsky looked across the lagoon to the island of San Giorgio, he was inspired to write his fourth symphony. His room, 106, has become a shrine at Hotel Londra Palace. The Londra Palace recently reopened after an renovation. Aubusson carpets contrast with brilliant mosaic floors and the hotel is decorated with Italian Neoclassical style.
