The majestic Lake Garda, one of the upper Italian lakes, is most Mediterranean and the greatest Alpine lakes in Italian in a magnificent landscape. This lake is located in Northern Italy, between Verona and Bresia and the lake is divided between the Italian regions of Trentino-Alto Adige in the north, Veneto in the southeast and Lombardy in the southwest. This beautiful lake has a size of 370 square kilometres and is true Mediterranean oasis with mild climate and a lush Mediterranean vegetation like lemon trees, olive groves, oleanders, bouganville and magnolias. Lake Garda offers a stunning natural scenery, full of colours and is surrounded by the spectacular Dolomites of Brenta in the north and the gentle slopes of morainic hills in the south.
Along the shores of Lake Garda there are many picturesque villages, historical churches and buildings. The northern part of Lake Garda is narrower and is surrounded by mountains, the most of which belong to the Gruppo del Baldo. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last ice age. The main tributary of Lake Garda is the Sarca River, while the only emissary is the Mincio River.
Lake Garda has numerous small islands, the largest is Isola del Garda with Villa Borghese. Nearby to the south is Isola San Biagio. Both are offshore of San Felice del Benaco, on the west side of the lake. The three other main islands are Isola dell'Olivo, Isola di Sogno, and Isola di Trimelone, all further north near the east side of Lake Garda.Around the lake there are two spectacular streets - the Gardesana Occidentale on west side of the lake mith many tunnels and galleries and the Gardesana Orientale on the east side of the lake.
Nago-Torbole is a comune in northern Italy in the province Trentino in the region Trentino-Alto Adige (Trentino-Suedtirol and located about 30 kilometres southwest of Trento on the north shore od Lake Garda. The comune Nago-Torbole consists of three villages.
Torbole is located on the northern shore of the romantic Lake Garda directly on the coastal road Gardesana Orientale. Here River Sarca flows into Lake Garda and leaves the lake as River Mincio in Peschiera del Garda. Torbole, an ancient picturesque fishermen's village, is a popular touristic destination, located at a romantic lake and surrounded by majestic mountains. The climate and the vegetation are Mediterranean.
Nago is situated on the hills above Torbole. The ruin of Castle Penede from the 12th century is located here.
The third village is Tempesta consisting only of some houses and is located in the south of Torbole on the eastern shore of Lake Garda.
